NORA HENDRIX PLACE LANDSCAPE RENOVATION
Location: Vancouver
Year: 2025
Project description: The Nora Hendrix landscape renovation reimagines a once-vibrant cultural gathering place for Vancouver’s Black community, restoring its role as a safe, beautiful, and welcoming hub. Following years of the covid pandemic, limited programming, aging infrastructure, plant decline, and safety concerns, the project focuses on revitalizing the garden through an upgraded site layout, improved drainage, renewed furnishings, and enhanced cleanliness of food-growing areas. The redesign strengthens both physical and social accessibility with expanded hardscape, clearer circulation, and new programming zones. Guided by Afrocentric spatial traditions, the garden reaffirms Black identity and community care. This project demonstrates the importance of restoring aging landscapes to maintain their quality, safety, and ongoing service to the community.
